Ofrenda at Detroit Institute of Arts

DIA day. Surreal to be installing a piece right down the hall from the Rivera murals.

This Ofrenda is titled Refugee Ancestors: Descendants United In Friendship.

The two collaborators and I went to this exhibit last year and discussed how we all had ancestors who immigrated from other countries. We all share similar traditions for honoring the dead. We hope to shine a light on the strange dichotomy of folks who are proud of their heritage yet want to deny others the same opportunity their relatives were given for a better life.
