2018 Scrapfest Project - Garden Installation

Artist Statement: A butterfly hovers over a flower, causing temptation for a curious cat. Bold flowers bloom out of a flower pot in the sunshine. We would love to see the metal flowers in someone’s yard nestled among real flowers; a contrast of the natural with the man-made.

Our goal each year is simplicity. The mission of Enviro-Mental art is to create assemblages from discarded objects and utilizing materials in a minimalistic way, changing the found objects as little as possible to start a conversation about our society’s “disposable” attitude and using as few additional resources as possible to create the piece. We do not use aerosol sprays, for environmental reasons, so the cat should get a lovely “orange tabby cat” patina.

The team consists of 2 working moms and our 9 year old son, who loves getting some experience working with metal, using only a 90 amp flux core welder, an angle grinder and a drill in our little garage. We do not have a lot of time or serious equipment but believe in doing the best we can with what we have to take part in this incredibly fun event.
